Howlite stone

Howlite

Symbol: Calm & Balance

Howlite is a white mineral with distinctive gray, web-like veining. It's naturally porous, which makes it easy to dye — dyed howlite is commonly sold as an imitation of turquoise or other stones.

Where It Comes From

Howlite was first identified in Nova Scotia, Canada, in the 1800s and is also mined in the United States.

Unlike most stones in this guide, howlite doesn't carry ancient cultural history — it's a comparatively recent mineralogical discovery, first described in the 19th century.

Birth Month

Howlite isn't one of the 12 official birthstones and has no widely recognized birth month.
